How to Be a Stand-Upper and What We Need to Know About Bullies!
• A bully is someone who bothers you, hurts your feelings, or hurts your body over and over again.
• Bullies want power, attention, or they may feel badly about themselves and want you to feel just as badly as they do.
• No one has a right to treat you badly!!!
• There are 3 kinds of people: Bullies, Doormats, and Stand-uppers. We want to be Stand-uppers.
• We have to use “stand-upper” body language like plant our feet firmly on the ground, look the person in the eye, use a strong tone of voice without yelling, keep our chin up, etc.
• We have every right to tell someone how we feel when they are not treating us well!
• We can try to ignore the behavior or we can keep saying, “Thank you”, or “So?”, or "Why are you being so mean?" over and over again until the bully gets sick of it.
• We can use bystanders and our friends to help us when the bully is around.
• We should always tell an adult if someone hurts us or bullies us over and over so they can help us. If we don’t tell, they can’t help!
Please ask your parents or friends to role-play with you pretending they are the bully.
