IT'S OKAY
Not only are you trying to figure out how to manage your household, but you are now having to home-school your children! It is difficult enough if you have one child in one school, but if you have several in multiple schools, it can seem very overwhelming. Just remember, it's OKAY to feel this way. It's OKAY to not know. It's OKAY to slowly tackle this. It's truly OKAY.
Daily News
|
Turn off the news. If you want to see updates, plan a time to watch them every day (the 5 o'clock news, for example). Have your child do something at that time away from the TV. Children can't interpret news like we can and they can hear something, hang onto that sentence and obsess about it. Don't forget they listen to everything you say when you're on the phone or talking to other adults in the house.

Daily Routine
|
Make a daily schedule. Do you need a fancy calendar? No. You and your children create the schedule together and let them have choices and tell them what is non-negotiable. For example, they can do a chore at 3:00 to 3:30 or from 4:00 to 4:30. They can choose the time when you are all creating the schedule, but a chore has to be done daily. Include snack time, "recess", etc.

What Will TheyRemember?
|
What will they remember about this time? What do you want them to remember? You probably don't want them to remember the frustration you both felt trying to do math or trying to get them to sit still to learn sight words. You want them to remember spending time with family and feeling loved, supported, calm and happy. This doesn't mean they shouldn't have goals, structure and boundaries. It simply means they will remember how they felt over everything else.
